There were 38 people in attendance including guests Bruce Munro, Susan Weller, Bill Grantham’s lovely granddaughter, and soon-to-be Valle Verde member, Dave Wickstrom.
Gary Friedman’s invocation asked that we Rotarians be given the desire to do good and help our neighbors, and to fulfill our obligations to our neighbors and friends honestly and ethically.
  • Carol Pfister’s birthday, March 18, was celebrated.  Carol also showed us the result of her injuries suffered in a recent fall in which her face landed on a concrete landscape block damaging her glasses, nose, and causing soreness to her shoulder and elbow.  She and Tim are traveling to Rocky Point to celebrate her birthday and recuperate.
  • The Food Fight continues through April 1.  Donations may be mailed per instructions on our website or brought to our first in-person meeting April 1.

  • Judith Noyes was not feeling well and missed the ZOOM meeting.
Club member Phil Silvers and District 5500 Historian gave a talk on the history of Rotary in Arizona dating back to 1914 and the Rotary Club “100” of Phoenix which faced an uphill battle to form the club in the face of false rumors and fear of competition.
Phil’s talk featured information about the earliest clubs formed in Arizona in the 1920’s and the first Rotary Club, Tucson Catalina, formed in 1947 as the first time a second club had been introduced in the same city.  Phil included the work of many influential Rotarians in Arizona’s history and their accomplishments including our own Eugene Friesen, and, reluctantly, his own contributions to Rotary.
Steve Sibulsky recorded Phil’s talk to make it available to other Rotary clubs in Arizona and will make it available on the Valle Verde website.
