Announcements by Pres. Charlotte
  • Fisher House visit on May 6. Jim Rusk will lead anyone interested in joining the visit immediately after the Rotary mtg. Supply needs for Fisher House can be brought to our mtg.
  • Continental School celebrated Earth Day on April 22 with students, parents and staff planting flowers in 6-7 large planters throughout the school campus.
  • Borderlands Produce rescue needs volunteers on Sat., May 1st from 5:30 to 10:30 at the GV United Methodist Church.
  • Reminder to log in your miles for the 100mile club in the folder with Laura. As of our mtg April 22 our walkers have logged 301.9 miles.
  • Support I-Give by registering Valle Verde Rotary club when ordering online.
  • On May 27th at 5:00PM, we will gather for “ Adios Senora Presidenta'' at Esperanza Estates Ramada. RSVP to Michelle Lewis. Cost is $15 per person. Spouses are invited. Food served by El Rodeo.

Guest Speaker: Judge (Ret) Ted Borek , member of Tucson Presidio Rotary club and an
Ambassador for the National Institute for Civil Discourse, spoke on the “Importance of Civil
Discourse”. The Institute for Civil Discourse was initiated by Gabby Gifford and now Sen Mark Kelly along with many prominent Americans including Presidents Bush and Clinton for engaging differences constructively. The board of the Institute developed six different programs.
Engaging Differences - Helps communication using digital tools to provide education on the ways to communicate.
Common Sense Americans - members pick several issues per year. Members devote time to study these issues & develop policy briefs and decide which issues to pursue during the year. The group has nearly 20,000 members consisting of Republicans, Democrats and Independents.
Golden Rule 2020 - Helping People Communicate. A Call for dignity and respect in politics was started by Faith Organizations to apply the Golden Rules in Political discussions.Many tools have been developed for education of participants.
Divided We Fall - Groups of multi generations gather together to discuss pertinent topics of establish improved understanding different views.
Next Generation - Have developed workshops for State Legislators to learn about communication and civil discourse.
Research Network - 50 scholars work together to develop the programs for presentations on Common Sense Americans.

Website.  In checking the website, the membership for Common Sense Americans has increased to over 27,000 members.
