Meeting Notes July 1, 2021
Oh what a happy day for the Club with the installation of Bill Grantham as Club President for Rotary year 2021-2022.  It was also a bittersweet time as we once again thanked Charlotte Gates as the outgoing President, who served in that role for 20 months.
The Invocation was presented by Kathleen Silvers as she recalled the brief Presidency of Andy Grantham.  We all share in Bill’s sorrow at the loss of his beloved wife to a devastating illness.  We all celebrate with Bill as he assumes the role of President.
Kathleen restated the new Rotary International theme “Serve to Change Lives”.  By fully embracing this quest, we find that through working to change lives for the betterment, we also find it possible to change within oneself.  Kathleen concluded by asking God for the strength of each one of us to work to serve others and in the end to change lives of those most in need.
  • Outgoing President Charlotte introduced our distinguished guests today:  Ellie Patterson, Past District Governor, Bill Monro, Assistant District Governor, and Joyce Finkelstein, member of Green Valley Rotary Club and membership chair for District 5500.
  • Once again, a reminder that on July 4 flags will be placed on LaCanada by club members.  To offer your help in placing the flags or removing them later in the day, please contact Mary Fisher.
  • Raffle tickets have arrived for the Tucson Classic Car Show.  It is your chance to support the Rotary Club of Tucson and our club with the purchase of a ticket(s).  The purchase of your ticket includes entrance into the car show.
  • There is still a need for school supplies for local children.  The Salvation Army will collect your donations through July 15.
  • To purchase a coupon book for the Taste of Tubac fundraiser, see Gary Friedman.
Bruce Monro conducted the installation of Bill Grantham as Club President and administered the Oath of Office.  The gavel was passed to Bill by outgoing President, Charlotte Gates.   Bruce continue the program by installing all Club Officers and Directors to serve their term for Rotary year 2021-2022.
Bruce concluded by recognizing and thanking Charlotte.  She served with distinction amidst the most challenging of times presented by the Covid virus.  Bruce presented Charlotte with a Distinguished Service Citation.
Ellie Patterson presented Bill Grantham with words of inspiration and wishes for his success in his leadership of the Valle Verde Rotary Club.
Bill Grantham spoke to thank the Club for the opportunity to serve as President and to kick off the Rotary year.
Next Week:  We will return to the Church for our regular meeting that will begin at 6:45a.m.  Our Program topic  will be "The Blooming of Canoa  Ranch", with guest speaker Raydine Tabor from the Historic Canoa Ranch
