Ray Cook opened the meeting with today’s INVOCATION emphasizing Rotary’s positive influence in minimizing war and wishing peace to all.
Today’s guests include Sopori Creek and Ranch project-AZ Land & Water Trustfrom Santa Cruz Regional Hospital, Phil Noble from the Green Valley Rotary Club, and Sue Weller.
  • Mary Fisher announced the Hunger Walk with the Interact Club’s participation raised $903 for the Food Bank.
  • Jim Rusk reported the crew at Fisher House filled welcome bags, cleaned rooms, shopped for groceries, and cooked meals.  Tentatively, the next date at Fisher House will be November 4.
  • The Tucson Rotary Classic Car show raffle sale will end October 7.  Half the $10 ticket remains with our club.  See Charlotte for tickets.
  • Last year our club raised $2,200 from sales of Jim Click raffle tickets.  Now is the time to focus on those sales with all proceeds going to St Andrew’s Clinic.  Tickets may be purchased from Mary Fisher or JP.
  • The trip to the Van Gogh exhibit will be on September 29 for those who have purchased tickets.
  • The Shelter Box and Stove projects continued through September 16 with check donations to be given to Gary Friedman.  Steve reminded us on line donations can be made until noon September 16.
  • Mary, Char, Ron, Bill, and Gary will be volunteers on Tuesday at the Genesis House assisting in the assembly of the playground equipment there.
  • New club shirts are being ordered.  See Gary to place an order.  Shirts are $25.
  • See Gary to sign up to volunteer at the aid station November 20 during the Ride to End Polio.  Twelve Valle Verde members have signed up.  Gary needs twenty to thirty volunteers and expects help from the Rio Rico   Interact club and the Green Valley Rotary Club.
  • Sandy reminded Thirsty Thursday is tonight at Los Agavas at 5:00 PM.  
  • Charlotte announced club members may make donations of gently used coats for Warmth From the Heart.  She will need volunteers later to help sort items.  Also the socks bin is nearly full but we want it to be full to the brim.
  • Judith mentioned the trip to Santa Cruz Regional Hospital has been cancelled, with the possibility of rescheduling later.  Paul Williams, PR Director of the hospital, will come in person at a future date to make a presentation.
  • Craig Altschul announced Jazz sponsorships are now total over $11,000 and include Partner Sponsor La Posada.  The Jazz Committee will meet Friday at 10:00 at Quail Creek.  Club members are welcome to become sponsors and to purchase tables or partial tables with another member.
  • Gene Friesen is selling Green Valley Rotary Club Oktoberfest tickets for a German dinner to be held October 30 at the Historic Canoa Ranch facility.  The tickets are $25.
  • Mary Fisher was named one of the I-19 Most Influential People.  Congratulations to Mary.
  • A Day of Peace will be held September 21 at 9:00 AM at the Montessori de Santa Cruz In Tubac.

The VV Foundation site allows members to send congratulations or condolences and make a financial contribution.  $2,000 has been donated to the foundation in this manner.  Donations may be made in amounts of $10, $25, $50, $75, or $100.
